Mobile home insurance

Mobile and manufactured home insurance in Florida

Mobile and manufactured homes need carriers that specialize in them, especially in Florida’s wind. We compare the companies that write them in Central Florida, from Orlando to Marion and Polk counties.

The short answer

Mobile home insurance works much like homeowners insurance: it covers the home, attached structures, your belongings and your liability. In Florida, the year the home was built, how it’s tied down and whether it sits on land you own or in a park all affect which carriers will write it and what it costs.

What carriers look at

  • Year built. Homes built after Florida’s tougher wind standards took effect in the mid-1990s generally have more options.
  • Tie-downs and anchoring. Proper anchoring matters for wind coverage.
  • Roof and additions. Roof-overs, carports, screen rooms and decks should be listed so they’re covered.
  • Location. Park or private land, and distance to the coast.

What it covers

  • The home itself, including permanently attached additions
  • Other structures such as sheds and carports
  • Personal belongings
  • Liability for injuries to guests
  • Extra living costs after a covered loss

Flood is excluded, as with any home policy. If you’re near water or in a low-lying park, ask about flood coverage.

Often, yes, though options narrow for older homes. Some carriers write homes built before the mid-1990s with conditions. We’ll tell you what’s available for your home’s age and condition.

Wind damage is generally covered, subject to a hurricane deductible. Flood from storm surge or rising water is not covered without a separate flood policy.
