Boat insurance
From bass boats on Central Florida lakes to center consoles headed for the coast, we’ll find coverage for your boat, your liability on the water and the storm season ahead.
The short answer
Florida doesn’t generally require boat insurance by law, but lenders and most marinas do. A boat policy covers physical damage to the boat, motor and trailer, your liability if you injure someone or damage property on the water, and extras like towing and fuel spill cleanup. Homeowners policies usually cover little or nothing for boats.
Many boat carriers in Florida want a named-storm plan: where the boat will be hauled or secured when a storm approaches. Some help pay for haul-out costs. Ask us how each policy handles named storms before you choose.
Boat owners often add an umbrella policy for more liability protection.
State law doesn’t generally require it, but if your boat is financed or kept at a marina, you’ll almost certainly need it. It’s also the main protection for your liability on the water.
Usually only small boats with tiny motors, and with low limits. Most boats need their own policy.
Yes. Jet skis and other personal watercraft can be insured on their own policy or alongside your boat.
