Church insurance

Church and ministry insurance in Florida

Churches have needs most businesses don’t: volunteers, youth programs, vans, events and buildings that host the whole community. We help congregations and ministries put the right coverage in place.

The short answer

Most churches need property coverage for the building and contents, general liability, abuse and molestation liability if they serve children or youth, directors and officers coverage for the board, and auto coverage for church vans or volunteers who drive. Workers’ compensation depends on how many employees the church has.

Coverage for churches and ministries

  • Property for the sanctuary, fellowship hall, sound and media equipment and furnishings
  • General liability for services, events and visitors
  • Abuse and molestation liability for nurseries, children’s ministry and youth programs
  • Directors and officers liability for decisions made by the board or elders
  • Commercial auto for church vans and buses, plus hired and non-owned auto for volunteers
  • Crime coverage for offerings and funds
  • Workers’ compensation for staff, as required

Florida considerations

Church buildings are large and often older, so wind deductibles, roof condition and flood exposure deserve a close look. If your property hosts schools, daycares or community events, tell us so the policy reflects how the building is really used.

Liability coverage generally protects the church when volunteers act on its behalf. Injuries to volunteers themselves usually need separate volunteer accident coverage, since workers’ comp covers employees.

If your church has a nursery, children’s ministry or youth group, it’s strongly recommended. Many general liability policies exclude these claims or limit them.

Church-owned vans need commercial auto coverage that lists or permits your drivers. Volunteers driving their own cars for church activities are protected for the church by hired and non-owned auto coverage.
